| Agree wth the last paragraph that it is unlikely to me correct that they'd have another DnD inspired MMO ready so soon but who knows. Easier just to wait for the multiplayer Dragon Age game which will probably be out before a NWN MMO and probably be better for multiplayer as well . | |

| Yeah, seems unlikely...
a) As said, theres already a DnD MMO. (edit: And even if Atari is willing, Wizards still has to give their ok)
b) What does a NWN MMO even mean?... Q: As a series, what are the similarities between NWN, its expansions, NWN2, and its expansions? A: The style of gameplay. They mostly have completely different stories and settings (apart from being set in Forgotten Realms). In addition, to compete with current MMOs it would obviously need current-gen graphics and tech. So to make a NWN MMO would basically be saying "Well its a NWN game... but with different gameplay... and story... and setting... and by a different company... and with different graphics". So it would be NWN how, exactly?
c) Its a crowded market, and with Bioware in development with its own MMO it would be a very strange marketing decision to try to release an MMO of a franchise where the developer was the biggest drawcard for the franchise: youd have have hard competition against them just to retain even the original franchise fans.

| About time. Somewhere for the powergamers to f**k off to and leave the rest of us to RP. Lol. They said NWN 2 would destroy the community. Its still here. They just cant grasp the fact that the game itself is just like any other RPG, what made it interesting and what made the foundations for the community was the creative control given to the average punter like you and me. I mean really, NWN wasnt a patch on the BG series when it comes to story and characters ... The game itself is just following its natural course in the world of harnessing fee paying gamers who are happy to zone out for hours on end rinsing and repeating. Sure the graphics might look great, but there wil be no depth. In the meantime we'll all still be playing this old crap. For free. Enjoying each others creations and still tinkering with it to make new creations. Cant see how one more MMOG can hurt the community. I say, all you NWN2 er's out there, time to give it up and come back to the fold. Forget the shiny razmatazz of dual/quad cores and fancy pants graphics cards to run newer shiny versions of depthless NWN. Just come back to the old stick men with dodgy shadows and play the original. far less stress on your PC and eaaaaasy multiplayer. | |

| Hmm... Related news: D&D Online has announced that it is going to become free to play, with micro-transactions for some content. Very interesting. I guess their current payment system wasn't working well enough. I guess the question now is whether this is evidence that Atari arent so happy with DDO and could be planning a new D&D MMO, or whether DDO changing their payment methods was the source of the rumour to begin with. | |

| You never know, it might be a build your own MMO in a toolset - basically a massive PW-oriented toolset. Possibly not, but imagine if you could "build your own MMO" fairly simply and have the PW style core behind it all making your PWs work. | |

| We could do that now, with NWN1, piece together several PWs ... I mean, theyre not big in storage or anything, any old piece of crap computing power will run it as a server ... | |

| Yes, there's no way to scale it to thousands of users. Even with 1 computer per area, you'd start struggling when you got more than 100 or so PCs in the same area. The code just isn't designed to handle that number of concurrent players. | |

| Lol. There isnt enough DMs to handle thousands of players! I didnt realise that MMOG were that big. Never really played any, although Ive beend tempted by Eve Online, but apparently its very hard for beginners *shrugs*, so dont want to fork out money for something that I might struggle to get into. But I suppose thats the difference ... DMs ... MMOG dont have them, games masters, referees, whatever you want to call them. So everything is the same automated scenario, no surprises, no twists, nothing unique or original ... Unless there happen to be good writers involved, but again a writer can only do so much with whats available. HAving someone involved in the storytelling that can effect real time changes and have an impact on real time gaming and invite players to make changes in the world. Im waffling, homebrew bourbon ..not good. Zzzzz. *slumps* | |

| To use the one and only real example of a successful MMORPG, World of warcraft, has a very very good story telling, and all the automated story telling is really good, BUT, its always the same, you do it once, and you've seen it, and with wow, you always have to go through the same events over and over and over, especially in a dungeon because you know, getting items and equipment takes hundreds of attempts to hope that the right item you want drops, and then to win the roll against 20 other people who want the same thing, World of warcraft is good and consistant, very good in depth story telling, but its always the same, its like going back and reading that really good book you liked over and over again, and at the end of it, the guy picks up a different trinket or item occasionally.
NWN, you can have a plan for a story, but you cant predict what a person will do, and how you will have to change the story to react to what the player has done.

And it's really not the same over and over again unless are leet and one shot everything, or terribad and wipe on trash all time. It's the getting through the bosses one at a time and then the phat lewts dropping that keeps me going Though you are right, if storyline is what interests you more, something like NWN where things are virtually unpredicatable is much better than WoW. Only time I've seen a RP server on WoW was when a mate made a priest called Thepope and preached to people in goldshire that they should kill... err... lets just say something... 72hour ban and character deleted.
